Girl Debord takes its name from anarchist socialist artist philosopher Guy Debord whose writing is more and more relevant to the conditions of modern life and artistry than ever. In response to television and advertising in the 60s, Debord names the advent of the ‘spectacle’ in modern society where human experience is mediated by images, representations, and screens rather than directly lived, warping reality into something distant and delivered rather than genuine and embodied. Like Debord’s vision of the spectacle, Girl Debord blurs lush textures into glitchy fractures and transmutes intimate emotions into buffered memories. After 5 years of hiatus from performing DIY shows, they return to the PNW to share a new set of songs.
